Broadband speed slowing you down?

A number of people still believed the speed of your broadband is determined by your broadband provider.

Well, it’s not entirely true.  The main reason for it being slow is simply the length of the copper wire (distance from the exchange to your premises).

Please read the following news feed ‘Business Broadband – Why is it different to Residential?’  This will help you gain a better understanding on the difference between business and residential broadband, another key factor when discussing broadband speeds and reliability.

You can check what speed you should expect by inputting you postcode or phone number in the following link https://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker.

This will provide an estimated broadband speed, which is very handy if you are looking to move premises and you want to know the speed of the broadband before moving premises.

What options do you have if you’re suffering from slow speeds?

Well, don’t worry there is good news;  Fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) has now been available for over a year.  The coverage is increasing more and more each week.  This works by using a fibre optic cable from the exchange to the cabinet. (This is the green box at the end of your street).

This will increase the speed by using the latest technology in cabling, limiting the length of the copper wire to around 50m, Instead of up to 3 km.

Further news feed will jump deeper into the technology behind FTTC.
