Telephone System Installation -NEC & Samsung requirements?
When choosing a new phone system, it can become quiet confusing, with many businesses explaining lots of technical jargon about features, Digital Handsets etc…
All you really need to consider, is what your business needs, do you need:
Music On Hold – Bespoke or normal.
Auto Attendant – This is where the called selects one, two three etc to speak to various departments.
12 Key or 24 Key handsets – how many buttons do you really need on each phone, remember don’t spend unnecessarily.
DECT Phone – These are digital phone, it’s what most people would recognise as a cordless, but on a Phone system DECT stands for “Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication”
Base Station’s – Do you need to walk from one end of a warehouse or building and not loose signal on your DECT phone? If so, have someone come and check the distance you want to cover, this is done via site survey.
Wireless Headsets – Do you have staff who are constantly on the phone, who may require a wireless headset? If so, look at Plantronics or Jabra who offer just about any type of wireless headset you could need.
Telephone Lifter – Do you want your Wireless headset to be able to lift their receive whilst your away from the desk, this can be done with a handset lifter, again Plantronic offer a combined package for this.
Voicemail – My businesses expect voicemail to come as standard with a system, sometime it doesn’t, check with your service provider if the telephone system comes with voicemail.
CAT5 Cabling – A new system may require new cabling, are you moving the office round, does it have CAT5 cabling already installed? Make sure the person installing your telephone system has considered if your existing infrastructure will support your new phone system.
System Installation – What day does it need fitting, is your business able to suffer an hour’s downtime or do you need a phone system engineer who can install it on a weekend? Is you engineer familiar with the system been installed or are the primarily NEC Specialists or Samsung Specialist, make sure they can fully support your install.
The key to a successful system installation is for you Account Manager to own the project from start to finish. They should take steps to ensure a smooth installation by checking key parts such as the type of telephone lines you have, do you have an ISDN2 or single analogue line, do you need a new phone line installation to ensure you can make and receive your anticipated call volume. If your account manager owns the project from start to finish you should simple see new phone arrive on your desk, be taught how to use them and see the business benefits of the phone system.
